Arif Mustafazade
Assistant Professor

Arif Mustafazade started his interest in electronics in the elementary school. Later in his high school years, he worked on design of analog and logic circuits, measurement instruments, and Phase-Locked-Loops (PLL). This led to his collaboration with industry which continued during his university education as the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department of Tabriz Azad University. After receiving his BS degree in the year 2000, he developed interest in digital photography and started working on the measurement of image quality factors in digital cameras. He continued his research on this topic as a master’s student at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in photography from where he graduated in 2008.

Between 2008 and 2010, he pursued his studies in the field of optics at Koç University, working on solid-state femtosecond lasers as a master’s student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. This followed his work in optical MEMS sensors which constituted the main subject of his Ph.D. thesis. During the last two years of his Ph.D., he worked as a principle design engineer and project manager at GAMAK Motors company, the largest manufacturer of electric motors in Turkey focusing on design and modelling of industrial motor drives and power systems.

After receiving his Ph.D. in 2016, he moved to United Kingdom and started working on MEMS gravity sensors as a post-doctoral researcher at University of Cambridge. He contributed to this project by designing ultra-high-precision analog circuits for signal conditioning and implementing advanced measurement and control methods, as well as thermal and mechanical designs. These led to huge improvements in this project in a very short period. In 2018, he joined as the lead design engineer at Silicon Microgravity Limited Company which was established for the same project. Taking a decision to return to Turkey in 2020, he joined the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department of MEF University and will start as an assistant professor.
